CANOPY – 24 ideas about Trees
An outdoor sound installation project by Lorna Rees
The National Memorial Arboretum, 2025

Canopy is an immersive sound installation where visitors are invited to discover a trail of suspended ‘sonic seed pods,’ to pause and to listen beneath. Artist Lorna Rees collaborated with nearly 500 people in the creation of this installation and the recordings visitors will hear; ecologists, artists, folk musicians, writers, and children have explored their connection to trees and what a forest is for. Canopy is a collection of 24 Ideas about Trees; stories, memories, anecdotes, songs, hopes, dreams, fears and facts.
