Playing Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Summertime. A second Shakespeare play with Civil Brawl. This time I had the opportunity to play one of my all-time favourite characters, Puck, in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This was again at a venue in Stratford – not the RSC, although it is an ambition of mine to play Puck with their company, and has been since I was about 15. It was then that I first played Puck for the first time as part of our Shakespeare School’s Festival. It’s always fascinating seeing the same play by two different directors and casts and in completely contrasting styles. For this production, I was asked to produce a bold yet ethereal makeup look for Puck within the colour scheme of my costume. It was a pleasure to get creative with face art and allow the design for each performance to have a slightly different twist. Now that I’ve finally revisited the role as an adult actress making my way in the world, perhaps the RSC is next? I mean, I can dream… Here are some production photographs.
