I’m Super proud of team EMAGIC Studios! Our short film entry ‘Brothers Keeper,’ has been shortlisted in the top 10 for Sci-fi London’s 48 hour challenge. This film was written, shot, edited and completed in a weekend. Teams are required to register ahead of the challenge start. When the challenge begins, each team is given a unique film title, a line of dialogue, and a prop, all 3 of which must be used for the short. A theme/ Scientific idea/ scenario suggestion is also given but this was optional and could be used as a prompt or not. The short film produced must be 3 – 5mins long.
Check out the short we came up with, below. Bear in mind the incredibly tight time frame AND the fact the entire thing was created and filmed from/ in a living room with a tiny tiny team! Not a bad way to stretch out our creative muscles, at all!
I found it both utterly stressful and thrilling at the same time, and feel perhaps a bit of a crash course in script writing could do me a favour in case I’m ever thrust into another scenario like this – writing of this ilk totally isn’t within my skillset, which is another reason I felt accomplished. Don’t get me wrong, I know it’s not a work of art, but it isn’t a total disaster either for a bit of first time screen writing for sci fi. It was good to try my hand at something different, with no expectations, just for fun!
If the chance arises to go again, I think next time it would be great to work with a larger team so that creative tasks can be split up between more people, thus more effort and time can go into each element. More people power!
Here is the entire Sci-Fi London 48 hour film challenge shortlist for 2022.
